Introduction

Words:1054

Rather than starting this intro talking about me I''l talk about two beings that are the most important to me; and those are my cats and my turtle. Once that gets out of the way I'll proceed to talk about myself. I obtained my first cat when I was about eight years old. My cousin had found the cat on the street and decided that he was going to keep him,but the cat looked like it was only about 2 weeks old, so after realizing that  the cat was going to be hard to care of he decided that I should have it and my parents agreed in taking him in. I have loved this cat since I first laid eyes on his whiskers, and thankfully he is still with me today. His name is Poochie. (This is kind of like a Hispanic name for a cat that my mom came up with. P.S I'm Hispanic, but I'll talk about that later.

The next cat that I got was just two years later when I was ten years old. This time around My parents found the cat in a parking lot just outside our house next to a car tire. The guy in the car was about to start the car, because he did not know that there was a cat next to his car, but right before he could take off my mom yelled at the guy to stop and my dad swooped in to take the cat, but the cat put up a fight. He was so afraid that he literally shredded my dads hands with his nails, but eventually they were able to bring it home. My parents wanted to bring it to a shelter later that day, but I somehow manged to convince them to keep the cat.  Fortunately the cat is still with me today and both cats live together. His name is Blacky. (Yes I decided on the name this time)

The next pet I obtained was a turtle about four years later when I was fourteen. I was at the park with my mom and dad and we were walking along this path that goes around a lake, when luckily my dad decided to look down while walking and we saw a tiny baby turtle along the path. My dad actually almost accidentally stepped on the turtle. There were no other turtles around so I was kind of afraid to just place him back in the lake so I decided to take him home and keep him as a pet. I later did research on what turtle I have, and it turned out to be a red eared slider, which is cool because those types of turtles can be taken in as pets. His  name is Brecko. (Don't remember how I came up with that name.)

I live with my mom, my dad, and my sister in Union City, New Jersey. This city is basically my hometown. I have lived here all my life since the day I was born. My parents are from Cuba and they actually both met Union City. They both moved here with their parents in their teenage years. Both of them moved from Cuba directly to this city in New Jersey. Growing up I was a shy and nerdy kid, and I guess I still am, but I kind of broken through my shell a little. I consider myself lucky to be spoiled by my amazing, and super caring parents.
This is me when I was about a year old

In 10th grade I won my first prize ever. To this day this is the only real big prize I have won throughout my life. Taco bell and Sony teamed up that year in 2014 to give away 6000 limited edition gold PS4's to 6000 lucky winners who entered a code that you had to get by buying a $5 box from Taco bell. I was very intrigued by this because I love gaming and even though I already had a PS4 it seemed so satisfying to have a limited edition PS4. I went in Taco Bell to try it and out, but mostly because I was hungry. I was definitely not expecting to win anything, but as soon as I finished eating I popped in that code on my phone and to my surprise It said that I was a winner. Three years of deciding whether I should open the box or just sell it on eBay I decided to give it to my cousin that just graduated from Rutgers in 2017. Since I already have a PS4 i would now be able to play with him.

One of my favorite places to go during the summer is Six Flags Great Adventure and Hurricane Harbor. I started going to six flags the summer right after I finished my freshman year in high school, and it was an amazing experience. At that point I have been wanting to go to Six Flags for over three years, but my Parents were afraid of me going on those roller coasters and water rides. To this day my mom still doesn't like the park, but my dad definitely does. I go with him every summer, and I also go with some friends from my high school. This summer I plan on going to Dorney Park for the first time ever.

One of my favorite adventures is when I went hiking with my cousin back in the summer of 2016. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the park, but I know it was somewhere in New York. It was my first time going hiking, and to be honest I was actually a little scared. We went through some caves and very confusing and dangerous paths throughout the mountain, but it was all worth it. There was an amazing view at the top of the mountain, and all the caves that we went in were beautiful. I definitely want to do something like that again this summer.

My favorite show of all time has to be Game of Thrones. From the story, to the characters, to the setting it's one of the best shows I have ever watched. I am currently awaiting the release of the final season which is supposed to premiere sometime in 2019. I recommend the show to anyone who loves action, a great story, and likable characters.

I just 100% had to get this shirt

  1. Dear Gio,

Of course I love all of the pictures of your animals, even though Blackie is a little indiscreet. I also think that everyone should be required to have their baby picture on any social media they use--it helps to remind us of how cute and vulnerable we all once were. There are seeds of stories in your post. For one, this contest that you mentioned is intriguing, because statistically, it's very difficult to win any of these mass prizes, and for you, there's a dual irony of winning but winning something that you already had. The other interesting piece here is the interest in Six Flags and amusement parks in general. That setting has a lot of potential for drama and change, and could be something that you explore in your podcast or video. Basically, this class is a lot about finding out what you most want to uncover or explore about yourself in writing and visually, and also figuring out what will be interesting to your viewer/reader. It's a difficult balance--sometimes the stories we want to tell aren't as interesting as we think, and sometimes, the stories we think of as mundane and run-of-the-mill are what's most intriguing to an outside reader. For example, the story of you wanting to save the turtle makes me wonder more about other parts of your life when you've wanted to save something or keep it from harm. Just some things to think about for future projects.
